[NOTE: We are on the edge of the Christmas Season, and I thought I would post my traditional story of Paula Israel and me and how it shaped us as a couple. This will be the 21st year since I first posted it, and I have tweaked some terms and references, but overall, I think the points remain clear. In any case, let me be among the earliest of this season to wish you the happiest holidays, whatever you want to celebrate
That was a good read! "The Season of Good Will to All" really sums it up. The part where you mention how Santa Claus treats kids differently resonates with me. Coming from a working class background too, the idea that there's a mystical being who loves rich kids more than poor kids is pretty dystopian. I try to avoid the commercial side of Christmas, and focus on bringing us together with board games, food, music and films. There's also, in my country, the background of rising poverty and homelessness, combined with the drop in temperature this time of year. The story of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol gets more real year by year.
This is a lovely sentiment about the Christmas season, relevant for people of all faiths. And I look forward to it every year.
Thanks for sharing this, Shel!

Wonderful story Shel! Thank you.
